The Birth of the Male Ego

Who knew it started so early in age....like 6th grade??!!  I had no idea.  After all, who am I?  Just a wimpy teacher.  I've been taught to teach the State's Standards.  I don't remember reading about the male ego.

Well, it all started when we took our kids bowling.  My co-worker (who is not so wimpy) instructed the boys and girls that they were to line up by shoe size.  I automatically thought...ok, this is going to take a minute or 15.  Well, it didn't take long surprisingly.  I somehow got stuck with the boys' line.  As the boys discussed their show sizes, one came to me and said, "I don't feel comfortable telling my shoe size".  I said, "well, I have to know, so I'll know where to place you in line. You can whisper it to me, and I won't share it".   He whispered his size....I won't share, but his feet are small. Of course he ended up in the front of the line.  I went down the line to check to make sure all of the boys were in order....I got 4, 5, 7, 8.5.....then I got to the end....10 IN MENS, 11 IN MENS....the IN MENS part came from some weird deep voice from each boy.  I could not stop laughing!

When we got into the bowling alley, I saw my little friend with his velcro fastened bowling shoes....so cute to me, but to him an embarrassment.  I immediately thought about the book "Those Shoes", by Maribeth Boelts.  I envisioned Jeremy standing there with the velcro shoes, with the duck on the side....  At least he didn't have a duck on his shoes!

This was my second time in life bowling and I got beat by a bunch of 11 and 12 year olds.....Where is the birth of the "teacher's ego"??

Who's A Wimpy Teacher?

Hello World!

This is my first entry as a wimpy teacher!  I guess you wonder "why" I entitled this blog "Diary of a Wimpy Teacher"....well, I'm a middle school teacher and my kids LOVE the Wimpy Kid book series!  I realized that teaching middle school is just as scary as being a middle school student!  I also realized that teaching is so much bigger than me and my four walls.  It's HUGE!  I'm just a small fish in a big sea of EXTRAORDINARY teachers!

I'm going to be blogging about my wacky days....my good days....and my not so good days!  I hope to provide you with laughter and entertainment.  I would also like to provide you with "some" seriousness, but not too much!  Don't expect it!

I live in a big city in Illinois, but teach in a small town in Indiana....that's all you're getting there :)

Educationally Yours,
A Wimpy Teacher!
